Frequently Asked Questions

Royal jelly is a thick, white, jelly-like substance secreted by nurse bees inside the hive. It’s used exclusively to feed the queen bee throughout her life - which is why she lives significantly longer and grows much larger than worker bees.

Royal jelly can be taken in a few different forms — fresh, freeze-dried, or in capsules. Fresh royal jelly is usually consumed in small amounts (around ¼ to ½ teaspoon) directly under the tongue for faster absorption. It has a naturally sharp, tangy taste and is best taken on an empty stomach in the morning.

Capsule or freeze-dried powder forms are a convenient alternative, especially if you’re looking for consistent daily intake without the strong flavour. No matter the format, royal jelly is best stored in the fridge to preserve its potency and natural enzymes.

Royal jelly contains a unique mix of bioactive compounds, including amino acids, B-vitamins, and 10-HDA, that may support male health in several ways. Research suggests it may help with energy production, hormonal balance (including testosterone regulation), and antioxidant protection - all of which are important for vitality and healthy ageing in men.

Yes. Royal jelly is safe to eat and is commonly consumed as a natural supplement. It can be taken fresh (directly by the spoonful or under the tongue), or in capsule or freeze-dried powder form. Because it’s highly concentrated, only a small amount is needed — typically ¼ to ½ teaspoon daily for fresh royal jelly.

Royal jelly is harvested from special queen bee cells in the hive. Beekeepers use a process called “queen grafting,” where young larvae are placed into artificial queen cells to stimulate the worker bees to produce royal jelly. After about 72 hours, these cells are carefully removed and the royal jelly is extracted by hand using a small suction tool or spatula.

Because each cell contains only a tiny amount, harvesting royal jelly is labour-intensive and requires precise hive management - which is why it’s considered one of the most valuable bee products.
